One of the reasons health experts give walking rave reviews is because it’s a ‘lifestyle exercise’. That means you can usually make time for it without too much of a change to your daily routine. Walking to work, to the shops, or the final mile from the bus stop may take a little more time, but it’s definitely cheaper and possibly less daunting, than joining a gym. There are a number of primary schools that can be easily reached on foot, the closest being Deighton Gates Primary School and Saint Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, that can be reached within 20 minutes. The nearest secondary school – Wetherby High School, is around 30 minutes walk away from your home at Spofforth Park. You can also walk to the nearest dentist, doctors and pharmacy within 20 minutes.
The Cooperative Food supermarket can be reached in around 10 minutes and Aldi, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s can all be reached within 25 minutes.
Living Streets is a national charity that supports pedestrians. Its website provides details of walking campaigns, including Walk to Work Week, and has lots of useful information on why it’s great to walk!
